Six New Formulas for 2020
Flameless(Capsules) Inflammation has commonly been known to be part of the body’s healthy response to injury and infection, but research suggests that it may also be the root cause of many diseases and accelerate the ageing process in the average person. Acute inflammation is a healthy response which serves to protect and repair the body from something damaging, whether that be an infection in a cut or a strained muscle. Evidence of acute inflammation can be seen in scabbing, redness, pus, and swelling.
Chronic inflammation, on the other hand, is not part of the body’s natural healing process. Chronic inflammation is a condition where dilated blood vessels and a hyped up immune system become the new norm. The human body isn’t designed to cope with this unfocused immune activity, and eventually chronic inflammation will cause organ damage. Chronic inflammation is associated with the alteration of cell signaling pathways, which results in increased levels of inflammatory markers, lipid peroxides, and free radicals, causing cell damage and eventually leading to the clinical symptoms of disease, including obesity; diabetes; cardiovascular, neurodegenerative, and inflammatory bowel diseases; and certain types of cancers.
Oxidative damage is a major contributor to the inflammatory response as well as the functional decline that’s characteristic of aging and diseases of aging. Inflammaging is a chronic low-grade inflammation that develops with advanced age. It is believed to accelerate the process of biological ageing and to worsen many age-related diseases.
Stress, lack of exercise, poor diet and insufficient sleep are all major contributing factors to chronic inflammation. Thankfully, it is within our power to alter these factors for the better. Also, nature has provided us with many potent anti-inflammatory herbs and other supplements.
GI Care 2GI Care 2 provides comprehensive prevention and repair of many common digestive tract, and especially intestinal health issues.
The amino acid L-glutamine is an important energy source for cells that line the intestinal mucosa. It has been extensively studied for its ability to preserve structural and functional health of the intestine, and to promote intestinal recovery during and after injury or stress, such as occurs in infection or surgery
Hydrolyzed Fish Collagen contains important amino acids needed to repair and rebuild the intestinal wall. They provide the building blocks from which to make new collagen which helps to maintain and repair the intestine, and the entire length of the digestive tract. This is important to prevent or repair a leaky gut. A leaky gut not only leaks toxins and bacteria, but also nutrients. A permeable gut lining can prevent vitamins and minerals in food from being absorbed properly.
Collagen contains glycine, an amino acid which has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation is the root cause of many conditions and diseases Diverticulitis like IBS, Diverticulitis, Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s disease. Diverticulitis. Collagen also helps relieve constipation because it is a hydrophilic molecule, which attracts water and acidic molecules that help food move through the GI tract more smoothly.
Triphala is recommended and used more often than any other Ayurvedic herbal formulation. It is popular for its unique ability to gently cleanse and detoxify the digestive tract, while simultaneously replenishing and nourishing it. It is most well-known for its gentle effects on the bowels, improving peristalsis and cleansing toxic build up of wastes. Basically, Triphala promotes digestive regularity. The importance of this cannot be understated, especially for those who suffer from irregular elimination and other forms of bowel disease. Ayurveda also views it as a nourishing supplement known for its ability to rejuvenate healthy tissues, allowing one to age gracefully.
Turmeric (standardized to 95% cucuminoids) is strongly anti-inflammatory, matching the effectiveness of some anti-inflammatory drugs, but without the side effects. It blocks NF-kB, a molecule that travels into the nuclei of your cells and turns on genes related to inflammation. NF-kB is believed to play a major role in many chronic diseases. Increasingly, the anti-inflammatory properties of these curcuminoids have attracted the attention of researchers, who have gathered extensive evidence of curcumin’s positive impact on preventing and treating proinflammatory diseases. Preclinical studies suggest curcumin may be of benefit in inflammatory bowel disease including ulcerative colitis. Studies in animal models of IBD have shown that curcumin can inhibit tumor necrosis factor-alpha, one of the inflammatory chemical messengers associated with diverticular disease and acute diverticulitis.
Organic Ginger Root has a long tradition of being very effective in alleviating discomfort and pain in the stomach. It’s regarded as an excellent carminative, a substance that promotes the elimination of excessive gas from the digestive system, and soothes the intestinal tract. It helps to reduce bloating, flatulence, intestinal colic, IBS and poor digestion as it stimulates digestive acids and secretions thus supporting the digestion of food and nutrient absorption and assimilation.
Calcium Butyrate is a short-chain fatty acid produced in humans by intestinal bacteria that digest and metabolize fiber. Butyrate is critical to colonic mucosal health; is the preferred fuel of the cells that line the interior of the colon; helps maintain the intestinal barrier; has anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects; and helps regulate colonic motility.
Vitamin C from Acerola Berry: Vitamin C is essential in repairing your intestinal lining because it can help boost your body’s natural production of collagen, and make supplemental collagen more assimilable.
Digesten-K® Kiwi Fruit Extract from New Zealand comes from the flesh and skin of green kiwifruit. A digestive powerhouse, Kiwi contains the four most critical components needed for healthy digestion, prebiotics to promote the growth of “good” gut bacteria, phenolics to help suppress the growth of bad bacteria and maintain a healthy digestive tract, enzymes to break down and digest food, and soluble fiber to support healthy bowel function and keep things moving, naturally.
Boswellia is a resin, known as frankincense, or Ru Xiang in TCM. This resin, or gum, contains the primary active components, Boswellic acids that clinical trials have demonstrated have anti-inflammatory action similar to that of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS). However, unlike NSAIDS, long-term use of Boswellia does not appear to lead to irritation or ulceration of the stomach. A comprehensive overview of in vitro and animal studies found that Boswellic acids inhibit the synthesis of pro-inflammatory enzymes, illustrating its usefulness as an anti-inflammatory agent. The Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database (NMCD) indicates that boswellia extracts “can reduce pain and improve mobility in people with osteoarthritis in joints by 32% to 65%.”
Resveratrol, a standardized extract of Polygonum Cuspidatum Root, belongs to a group of compounds called polyphenols that are thought to act like antioxidants and protect the body against damage. It has long been considered a therapeutic agent for various diseases, including inflammatory diseases. Resveratrol and curcumin also support “regulatory T cells,” cells that regulate the immune system. When regulatory T cells don’t work efficiently, the immune system can become overzealous and promote inflammation and autoimmunity.
Two components of Ginger, gingerol and zingerone, may reduce the inflammation linked to colitis, kidney damage, diabetes and breast cancer. Gingerols present in ginger work in the same way as piperine in pepper. Turmeric powder with ginger juice gets absorbed much faster. Ginger also ensures absorption of curcumin in intestines. There’s also evidence suggesting ginger supplements can decrease inflammation and muscle soreness after exercise.
Piperine, a compound found in black pepper that’s responsible for its pungency, can greatly improve absorption of turmeric in the body. In one study, when taken with 20 mg of piperine per 2.2 pounds of body weight, piperine improved the bioavailability of turmeric by 2000%. Gingerols present in ginger work in the same way as piperine in pepper. Turmeric powder with ginger juice gets absorbed much faster. Ginger also ensures absorption of curcumin in intestines.
MCT Oli Powder: When turmeric, which is fat soluble, is mixed with MCT Oil Powder, or any such healthy fat, it gets absorbed in the lymphatic system directly without reaching out to the liver.
Alpha-lipoic Acid is a fatty acid made by your body. It plays a key role in metabolism and energy production, and functions as an antioxidant, protecting your cells from damage and helping restore levels of other antioxidants, like vitamins C and E. Alpha-lipoic acid also reduces inflammation. Several studies show that it reduces the inflammation linked to insulin resistance, cancer, liver disease, heart disease and other disorders.
Joint TrustJoint Trust is one of several Blue Dragon Formulas not comprised exclusively of Chinese Herbs. It has been added to the line for its effectiveness and practicality in treating one of the most common problems seen in many TCM practices, that is, pain and inflammation in the joints. It was specifically formulated to deliver crucial nutrients at a molecular level, supporting healthy cellular regeneration and optimal function for joints. Numerous studies have shown its effectiveness promoting joint health and flexibility, in part by renewing synovial fluid. It blocks the enzyme that breaks down cartilage and slows the progression of osteoarthritis
Glucosamine is a natural sugar produced by the body and found in certain foods. It plays an important role in the production, maintenance, and repair of connective tissue, including cartilage, ligaments and tendons. In most cases, the joints produce sufficient glucosamine to keep the connective tissue in good repair, but if they fail to do so, they can dry out, degenerate, crack, and, in the case of cartilage, even completely wear away. Left unprotected, the joints then become swollen, stiff, inflamed, tender, and painful–the condition known as osteoarthritis. Glucosamine helps decrease cartilage destruction, joint pain, swelling and loss of flexibility, and without the harmful side effects that are associated with NSAIDs or COX-2 drugs.
Chondroitin reduces pain and inflammation, improves joint function and slows progression of osteoarthritis. It enhances the shock-absorbing properties of collagen and blocks enzymes that break down cartilage. MSM is an organic source of sulfur which is also utilized by the body in the formation of connective tissue. Sulfur is essential to good health, but is easily destroyed by modern food processing methods resulting in widespread deficiencies. It is structurally and functionally important to more than 150 compounds in the body including enzymes, hormones, antibodies and free radical scavengers. MSM helps detoxify the body and increases blood circulation. In clinical studies, it has been shown to reduce inflammation, thus reducing pain and allowing the muscles to heal.
Turmeric also known as curcumin, has been used successfully for thousands of years by practitioners of the Chinese (Yu Jin) and Ayurvedic medicine as a treatment for stomach ailments, abdominal discomfort, and pain relief. Today, a 95% curcumin extract of Tumeric/Yu Jin has become recognized as an effective anti-inflammatory agent as well. It inhibits the same enzymes that NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) target, but without the side effects. Clinical studies in patients with arthritis have produced evidence of symptom relief of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. One randomized controlled trial found that curcumin had significantly reduced levels of the inflammation markers CRP and MDA.
Cordyalis (Yan Hu Suo) and Salvia (Dan Shen) are added for its strong blood moving and pain reducing properties and Ginger is added for its harmonizing effects.
AdaptogenXAdaptogens are herbs that improve your body’s ability to adapt to stress, whether the stressors be physical, mental or emotional. To put it simply: adaptogens help you adapt. They work at a molecular level by regulating a stable balance in the hypothalamic, pituitary, and adrenal glands. Numerous studies also show that they improve blood sugar levels, optimize protein synthesis, reduce inflammatory cortisol levels and improve cholesterol ratios.
To qualify as an adaptogen, an herb must be completely safe and non-toxic and have broad uses for health. This elite class of herbs impart strength, energy, stamina, endurance, and improve mental clarity. In many parts of the non-Western world adaptogens are used extensively in high-risk, fast-reflex occupations, from athletes to miners to deep sea divers.
Siberian Ginseng is classified as an adaptogen, enhancing immunity and vitality overall. It can be used in combination with other adaptogenic herbs to support cognitive parameters such as performance, speed, accuracy, and attentiveness to a task, as well as support the stress response, by both subjective and objective measures. According to the American Psychological Association, 77% of people in the U.S. regularly experience physical symptoms caused by stress.
Ginseng provides non-specific protection against various mental, physical and environmental forms of stress. Studies have demonstrated the potential of ginseng to prevent and reverse a number of inflammatory conditions, including diabetes, heart disease, stroke, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and asthma.
Rhodiola is widely known as an adaptogen due to its ability to increase resistance against a variety of chemical, biological and physical stressors and to help the body recover homeostatis. It has a much earlier tradition in Tibetan Medicine. Rhodiola has been proven to reduce the secretion of cortisol during stressful situations. Too much cortisol (your primary stress hormone) can deplete your nutrient reserves, impair
memory, and have devastating effects on your blood pressure, blood sugar, and metabolism.
Schisandra is a potent general tonic, decreasing fatigue, enhancing physical performance, and promoting endurance. The berry counters stress by reducing the levels of stress hormones in the blood
Turmeric is probably one of the most studied herbs today, in large part due to its amazing anti-inflammatory functions. It supports the body’s innate antioxidant function by decreasing inflammation and boosting immunity, as well as helping the body to maintain healthy levels of stress hormone production. It helps the body maintain healthy levels of body weight, blood glucose, cholesterol, corticosterone, memory, and reduced glutathione during the acute and chronic experience of stressors
Reishi Mushroom has been rated the most prized herb in traditional Chinese medicine for over 2,000 years, with Ginseng in second place, and is so highly treasured that it was traded for its own weight in gold and was available only to emperors. It is still the most important herb in Asia and the most thoroughly researched. Many hundreds of studies support traditional health claims. Reishi contains over 200 active ingredients and unique compounds that are the most biologically active obtainable from any plant source. The adaptogenic, antiallergenic, antihypertensive and immune system boosting effects are due to the presence of triterpenes, including ganodermic acid. Reishi has also been shown to substantially reduce or eliminate the side effects of radiotherapy and chemotherapy if it is taken before, during, and after the treatments.
Shitake have been cultivated for more than 1,000 years. Over centuries, it was found that the mushroom could be used not only as food but also as a remedy for upper-respiratory diseases, poor blood circulation, liver problems, exhaustion and weakness, and is a booster for life energy. It was also believed to prevent premature aging.
Ashwagandha is often referred to as Indian Ginseng. Its effects on cortisol, stress tolerance and internal stress responses have been studied for decades. It is both a rejuvenating and a sedative herb, it can both relax and increase energy at the same time. It is a great herb for combating stress as well as impotence. Lycii Berry, He Shou Wu, Codonopsis and Rehmannia are additional highly prized Chinese adaptogens. They are classified as a food, an ingredient in meal preparation.
Radiance SupremeRadiance Supreme adds Zhen Zhu or Pearl Powder and “four Flowers” to Radiance to create a premium formula which cleanses and builds the Blood for healthy skin and luminous complexion. Traditionally, Zhen Zhu or Pearl is said to promote healing and generate flesh, soften and cool the Liver, and promote the smooth flow of the Blood. It has been used for centuries in China for its ability to accelerate the regeneration of new skin cells, thus helping create a smooth, radiant complexion. Zhen Zhu is a valuable mineral source, contributing calcium, magnesium, zinc, strontium, selenium and copper, which aid in supplementing skin and bone vitality. It also contains dozens of amino acids that are necessary for maintaining health, including eight that cannot be produced by the body.
Clinical Studies have shown that Pearl Powder/Zhen Zhu promotes the activities of the important natural antioxidant enzyme SOD, aiding in the prevention of development of melanin which can cause freckles, dark patches and blemishes on the skin, including pimples and boils. And because SOD eliminates free radicals, skin aging and wrinkles thus can be partially prevented. Zhen Zhu also tranquilizes the nerves, and improves sleep,
The variety of fresh flowers used in Radiance Supreme have traditional properties that assist in the skins balance regarding moisture, tone and elasticity. White Peach Flower moistens the lungs, which in turn hydrates the skin, its natural color and benefiting overall skin luster. Lotus Flower clears heat and cools the liver, heart, and lungs, which aids in tissue regeneration; hydrates the skin; helps relieve skin discoloration, uneven pigmentation, and blemishes. White Rose flower restores liver function by allowing the smooth flow of Liver Qi, aiding in tissue regeneration and proper hormonal balance. Snow Flower is cool in nature; relieves uneven skin pigmentation and balances skin tone and moisture.
Ultimate ReplenishmentUltimate Replenishment is a unique combination of superior herbs used traditionally in China as an ultimate longevity tonic formula. These herbs are renowned for promoting health and long life, and even for reversing signs of “premature aging”, including possible premature gray hair, dry, brittle or unhealthy hair with split ends, diminished eyesight, chronic, sore and weak lower back, decreased sexual function, fatigue or chronic exhaustion due to overwork or lack of sleep.
In addition to the herbs in Replenishment, this formula adds Reishi Mushroom, Rhodiola, and Cordyceps. Reishi Mushroom, called the ‘Mushroom of Immortality’, has been revered in China and Japan for centuries. Shen Nong, often called the Father of Chinese Herbalism, ranked Reishi as the number one herb for achieving radiant health and long life. It tonifies Qi/Energy, nourishes Blood and calms Shen/Spirit. Numerous studies have shown that it enhances immune function, lowers blood pressure and protects the liver.
Cordyceps tonifies Kidney Yang and replenishes Jing or primal, deep reserves of the body. It has both renal and liver protective effects and strongly enhances immune function. Cordyceps is so effective because it strengthens the body and Mind at a fundamental level, increasing the primary motive force for life activities. It replenishes Jing, thus restoring the deep energy expended by excessive exertion, adapting to stress or from aging.
According to TCM, Rhodiola replenishes the Source Qi or Vital Energy, activates blood circulation, unblock blood vessels and smooths asthmatic conditions. It has been used as a folk tonic for over a thousand years to alleviate physical fatigue and protect against winter coldness in mountainous regions. It is widely distributed at altitudes of 11,500 to 16,500 ft. Rhodiola also decreases stress, can help reduce symptoms of depression, improves brain function and may have anticancer properties. Clinically, it is indicated for general weakness after major illness, chest pain, and shortness of breath.
He Shou Wu or Polgonum treats Blood and Jing deficiencies that result in such signs of premature and “normal” aging as graying hair, declining vision, weak low back and knees,
impotence and lowered sperm count and motility. It is considered one of the best sexual and fertility tonics for both men and women. He Shou Wu contains many powerful anti-oxidants. It is widely believed that the superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity of He Shou Wu is responsible for its renowned anti-aging abilities. SOD is an enzyme that repairs cells and reduces the damage done to them by superoxide, the most common free radical in the body. Studies have shown that SOD acts as both an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory in the body, neutralizing the free radicals that can lead to wrinkles and precancerous cell changes. Researchers are currently studying the potential of superoxide dismutase as an anti-aging treatment, since it is now known that SOD levels drop while free radical levels increase as we age.
